Announcement: She Writes AI directory and newsletter
Our directory of women and non-binary folks writing about AI and data here on Substack has grown to the point that it deserves its own home, so more volunteers can help it grow and build our community
As most of you who read this newsletter are already aware, I’ve been curating the She Writes AI directory for the past 6 months. It’s a living, searchable list of women & non-binary people writing on Substack about artificial intelligence, machine learning, data, ethics, privacy, governance, applications, & business.
The directory began here on , my personal newsletter, in December 2024 as a simple bullet list of 34 writers I knew of. The directory has grown tremendously to 400+ in the past 6 months, which is awesome. And I began hearing from volunteers who wanted to help it grow.
So I’ve been looking into ways more people can participate & we can offer more community benefits to directory members. I have two announcements to share:
➡️ Anyone can now nominate themself (or someone else) for the SheWritesAI directory
🎉 The directory has now been migrated to a shiny new She Writes AI newsletter.
This permanent post always links to the complete directory and the latest maps:
From now on, ~monthly updates to the directory will be published as separate posts in the She Writes AI newsletter. Here’s the first one:
For the first 6 months of directory entries, see:
To search & use the complete directory, you can continue to use:

Karen, Thank you for doing this. I fall into the category of ethics and the philosophical implications of the biggest technological shift in history.
What keeps me up at night? The dearth of women in AI!
Women to Men Ratios (According to ChatGPT):
AI Professionals (global) ~22–29% to ~71–78%
AI Researchers (global) ~18% to ~82%
CEO in top 100 AI/tech firms 8% to 92%
Gulp. This is one of the BIGGEST risks I see of AI. You don't have to be an AI expert to understand the built-in bias, not to mention that the decisions made today in AI will dictate the future of humanity. So what can we do? Join Karen's "She Writes AI" community. Keep researching, writing and talking about AI. The more women's voices that are heard, the better off we will all be.
Thank you for undertaking this amazing project. I'm interested in promoting the discovery of emerging voices around Tech & AI.
